📣 We are looking for an M&A Associate with a strong interest in the execution of venture capital transactions to join Nauta Capital’s operations team in our Barcelona office. As part of this team, you will support the activities of our pan-European fund across all the geographies we invest in through our offices in London, Barcelona and Berlin. You will be involved in managing all of the funds’ transactions across our portfolio, from first investments in new companies to exits (and including everything in between).

You will be working closely with our operations team in Barcelona: Dani, Anna, Agustina and Glen. At Nauta, we are truly pan-European with a team of 20+ people distributed in three offices (London, Barcelona, and Berlin) investing in B2B software across Europe. We are looking for someone that brings diverse thinking to our team.

🗿 A bit about Nauta:

Nauta Capital is a pan-European Venture Capital firm founded fifteen years ago with €550m under management. We are trying to build a Venture Capital firm that will outlive us. This means that we have to be constantly evolving, expanding our investment scope into new thematic areas, developing our geographic footprint and hiring new talent while making sure that we focus on the long term.

Our teams in Barcelona, London and Berlin invest in early-stage software companies with a single global thesis. We have backed amazing technology disruptors such as Brandwatch, Social Point, Onna, Privalia, Zephr, Mishipay, Zenloop, Holded, Cledara, Appfollow and Kubermatic among others.

We are currently investing from our Fifth Fund of €190m. We plan to make around 35 investments in EU and UK from that fund, mostly series Seed and early A. We love being around entrepreneurs in the earliest stages and we feel particularly proud when they choose us to be their first investor in the company.

📝 Additional info:

The last two years have changed the way we work and we recognise the benefits that working from home may offer. We also believe that, at the core, our culture and business are built on face-to-face interactions with founders and colleagues. We are located in a beautiful office on Avinguda Diagonal in the Les Corts district with a view over Barcelona. Our team members come to the office 3 days a week and they can choose their location of work for the other 2 days of the week.

The whole Nauta team gets together for a few days of team building every year. The last two annual trips were to Mallorca and Sitges.

We offer competitive compensation and flexible budgets for continuous learning.

Candidate profile

  • The ability to lead negotiations in a highly constructive way: Every transaction involves finding alignment between two or more parties on a multitude of topics. When leading a transaction, it is important to be able to convey one’s priorities clearly while also understanding the position of the other parties to find this alignment as efficiently as possible.
  • Organization: Executing a transaction requires coordinating many parallel workstreams and ensuring that everything runs smoothly and on time. Proper planning is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills: While working on deals, we have to communicate with founders and advisors on complex topics which we have to express in writing in a clear and unambiguous way that cannot be misinterpreted. We also need excellent presentation skills to orally discuss these abstract issues and adequately summarize intricate situations and proposed courses of action that may arise during transactions.
  • Attention to detail: Transactions involve lengthy contracts with many aspects to consider (which will change from jurisdiction to jurisdiction) and thorough due diligences. We have to be able to spot all of the points that are relevant, which may sometimes initially seem like minor details.
  • Abstract thinking: Executing a transaction involves considering all possible future scenarios and planning for each and every one of them. We have to be able to generalize these outcomes into abstract wording that can apply to all cases.
  • Analytical mindset: Transactions will involve analysing companies’ financial data and engaging in its significance for the business and its strategic development.
  • Creativity: Every transaction is different and will come with new discussions and challenges. Creativity is needed to find the best solutions in each situation.
  • Business skills: To successfully execute a deal, it is important to understand each company in depth at a financial level. This requires a detailed and hands-on approach to financial management and excellent modelling skills.
  • Being a smart and fast learner: Venture capital is a fast and ever-changing industry. Our investments are as well. We need to constantly adapt and learn. Being a fast learner is a super-power. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn, self-directed and autonomous.
  • Languages: As a pan-European fund, our deals are done in English, so fluent English is required. Since we have offices in Barcelona and Berlin, several deals will involve information in Spanish or German, so knowing these languages will be a clear plus.

We have neuroscientists, economists, computer scientists, physicists and mathematicians in our team but we feel that we can still improve our diversity footprint.
